Unit 6 - Harry Bell Vlog

As a part of our Unit 6 we have been given the task of evaluating our performance in planning and shooting the video bio for new apprentices Harry, Lottie and Ellie.

My fellow apprentices and I were given the task of taking part in filming the vlog for the three new arrivals Harry, Lottie and Ellie. We were split into groups of three; the people in my group were two legends Harry and Robert. During the previous week of filming while I was absent, (Two Legends) Harry and Robert had done a good job of planning the sequence of events to be captured complete with a script and a practical storyboard. It was down to the effective planning by my team that I was able to come in with out knowing anything, be filled in by the team and execute my role as an individual and as a team member.

We did have a little hiccup before shooting as we hadn’t booked a camera for us to use for the shoot so we had to threaten Barrington to get us one or else.  Once we got hold of a camera we were on a roll, we knew what we had to shoot so we were happy to move forward and roll out but as we were caught up in the moment without a sense of time we were unexpectedly threatened and informed by One of Barrington’s allies that we had 10 minutes or so before we had to leave the class room we were filming in…. or else.  With a chunk of footage still to shoot at this point we had no choice but to speed up in order to try and get it all done (No chance).

Subsequently to that we were required to assist with another apprentice’s video, which ended up slashing our own shooting time. After engaging in negotiation between my group, and Barrington along with his Allies we were granted access to our previous filming location for another 15 minutes, in which to capture all of our footage for the Vlog.  It would have been fine to get things done in that time but it came to our attention that we had approximately 9 minutes battery life left and 8 minutes of space on the SD card.

Limited by the time and space on the SD card remaining to shoot we made a desperate decision to rewrite and make changes to the script. Despite being under pressure as a noble team we were able to deliver what was needed to get enough footage ready for edit.

What would I have done differently to achieve a smoother performance and possibly better outcome.

1.     Made sure we have a camera booked to shoot with

2.     Permission and agreed times to shoot in locations

3.     Several SD cards so we have extra capacity to capture film

4.     More than one battery and battery charger to swap over and charge meanwhile

5.     Schedule to keep up with time so that we don’t run over and to shoot more efficiently so we don’t run back and forth to locations we already visited.
